PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Alberto Halare started his career as a teacher in biology and chemistry after graduating from the Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. He has been the director for the national fisheries research centres in Inhambane and Zambézia. He has also been a part time professor at the faculty for Marine and Coastal Sciences at Eduardo Mondlane University in Quelimane.
From 2015 to 2018 Halare was responsible for the commissioning and operation of the 100 mill Norwegian Kroner (USD 12 million) investment CEPAQ – National Centre for Research in Aquaculture in Chokwe, Mozambique. He was responsible for establishing a new genetic platform for genetic enhancement of Oreochromis Mossambicus as well as starting the operation of the state-of-the-art tilapia hatchery at the center. He reported directly to the ministry and was responsible for handling approximately 50 full time employees of which approximately 2/3 were on contract.
